Subway Recordings

I love the creativity of this video. This video was created entirely on Apple products on a NYC subway. The instruments and video were all done on iPhones. One more reason that I love Apple! I have never heard of Atomic Tom before, but I dig it and they have my attention now.

Coachella Flashbacks

Check out this video from Coachella this year. Really well done video. The people are moving so fast that its hard to find myself and friends. I know we're out there somewhere. Who has 2 thumbs and is stoked for Coachella 2011? This guy!

History of Rap

Jimmy Fallon is growing on me... slowly but surely. I have to admit that I was not a fan of his for a long time.

Reasons he is getting cooler...
1) The Roots are his house band
2) He made a Saved By The Bell reunion happen
3) He is no longer on SNL
4) Check out this Rap medley he did with Justin Timberlake!

All My Friends Are Dead

I recently bought this hilariously morbid book, "All My Friends Are Dead." This illustrated children's book might not be the best read for the kids. But it's damn funny as an adult with a twisted sense of humor.

Check out a few of my favorites pages...

Surf Movie on a Budget... No Budget.

Local SD surfers Ryan Burch and Cyrus Sutton set off on a thirty mile, eight day walk through San Diego. Armed with only the boards they shaped, bamboo rickshaws, solar cookers, hobo stoves and cameras they set out to make a different kind of surf flick. Stoked and Broke is a "staycation surfari epic on zero dollars."

I can't wait to check out this film when it premieres in Encinitas next month.

Would You Try This Rope Swing?

I would like to say that I would have the guts to take this rope swing. The only question is... how many back flips could I pull before landing on my head?

Extreeeeeeeme!

This video is extreme to the max. Extreme Ironing might find its place in the X Games next year. I'm just sayin'. The death metal song in the background takes this sport to new levels. Grab your metal horns and iron at get gnarly.

Ear Candy - The Dutchess & The Duke

I think I am a little late on getting hip to The Dutchess & The Duke. I just recently discovered their incredible sound. I'm all in. They are a total throwback band. I hear traces of The Stones, Dylan, Van Morrison and The Animals. Hard to believe this album and music was created in the last few years. It's got the 60's written all over it. And that's not a bad thing. Check it.

This Doesn't Seem Possible...

This video blows my mind. These guys strength and hops are incredible.

Walking Across America

Great stop motion video showing a guy walking from NYC to San Fransisco. It was put together with over 2,700 photos taken all across the US of A. Love the creativity. I think I'll go for a walk now, while whistling this song. Happy trails to you.

Tarp Surfing

Who knew tarp surfing could be so amazing? Next time the waves aren't looking so tasty, grab a skateboard, a huge tarp and get stoked in some barrels. Shaka bra!

I have been sent this video by several friends the last few days. Thanks Luiz and Josh.

I Strive To Be This Happy In Life...

This guy is epic. My favorite part is when he smiles. I am going to hire this guy for a house party!

Ear Candy - John Meeks

Support local music! I have been playing this John Meeks record like it's going out of style. His debut album is full of Americana/ Alt Country jams. Jimmy LaValle from The Album Leaf plays bass on several of the tracks. This song "Been Down By Love" is quite possibly my favorite track. Press play now, thank me later.

Down With The Brits

As I have mentioned before... I am super excited for the 2010 FIFA World Cup to get going. South Africa will play Mexico for the first game of the Cup tomorrow morning. I will be up at 6, possibly with a beer in hand, to welcome the start of the greatest tournament there is.

I can't wait for the USA vs. England game on Saturday morning. I think the Brits are a little cocky about their chances of beating USA and for steamrolling through Group C. Yes, they are a good team that deserve respect and will most likely move onto the next round, but this front page article from The Sun, really chaps my ass. This article makes me want us "Yanks" to stomp on those "Limeys". Lets see how EASY this group will really be. Go USA! Ole Ole Ole Ole!

Goonies Never Say Die

It's hard to believe that The Goonies came out 25 years ago. Holy shit! That makes me feel pretty old. But strangely, the thought of The Goonies makes me feel young at heart. That movie is the quintessential 80's movie. The cast recently reunited in Astoria, Oregon, where the movie was shot for reminiscing and I assume to give each other high fives for being awesome. Director Richard Donner announced that the long-rumored sequel is a definite thing and will involve as much of the old cast as possible. Hot damn!

Funny Story... Meg and I found ourselves in Astoria on a roadtrip many moons ago. We came to the realization that Astoria was the name of the town in The Goonies, and noticed how similar the town looked. We were convinced that we could find the house that Mikey lived in (where Chunk had to do the Truffle Shuffle to get in the gate). We spent the good part of a day looking for it, with no success. It was an amazing day. I felt like we were Goonies looking for a hidden treasure. Destiny will take us back to Astoria one day to finish what we started. Goonies never say die!

I don't know how this scene from the movie has eluded me for 25 years, but I just saw this deleted scene from the movie for the first time. This is movie magic. Must have been heartbreaking for Steven Spielberg and Donner to cut out of the movie. Feast your eyes on this gem.

Ear Candy - Mumford and Sons

This is my jam right now. It's catchy as hell. So bummed I missed their show at Belly Up on Sunday. Can't catch em all I guess. I make a vow to my ears, to promise and catch their show next time they are in town. In the meantime... I will listen to "Little Lion Man" on repeat. Now you can too!

180° South

I am going to see 180° South tonight at La Paloma Theatre. I have been excited to see this film ever since I heard that it was being made. The film is inspired by Yvon Chouinard's 1968 road trip to Patagonia. Directed by and appearing in the film are the Malloy Brothers. With a soundtrack filled with tunes by James Mercer (The Shins), Isaac Brock (Modest Mouse), Jack Johnson and Mason Jennings you really can't go wrong.

Check out the trailer!

World Cup Starts in 20 Days!

I am psyched for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The 2006 World Cup found me taking extended lunches at the local pubs cheering on the amazing soccer that took place. I couldn't get enough of it. Hard to believe, but soccer is the most popular sport in the world. The USA is far behind Europe and the rest of the world in getting behind this great sport. Jump on the bandwagon folks, cause its going to be a wild ride of a tournament in South Africa.

This Nike ad is amazing.

I'm With Jacob!

With the series finale only days away, I only have a limited time left to proclaim my love for LOST. I want to shout it from the mountain tops. LOST is the greatest TV show ever! There it is... I said it. Never has a show created so much water cooler conversation. Every one who watches has their own theories and all the answers that will be answered will come to light on Sunday.

I love this shirt. I'm With Jacob pays homage to the I'm With Coco fandom.

This Drive Shaft tour t-shirt is beyond words amazing. I was just talking with someone the other day about how catchy Drive Shaft's song "You All Everybody" is.

This tote is rad.

Minivan Hip Hop

I love good advertising! I'm a big fan of the ad campaign that Toyota has been running for the Sienna. They just dropped this hot new single "Swagger Wagon". I love the little girl dancing. She can't help but feel that swagger.

Ear Candy - The Silent Comedy

I just saw The Silent Comedy live for the first time this weekend. I caught their show at Beach to Brewery and was countless Karl Strauss pints deep by the time they went on. But now giving a sober listen it is confirmed... this band is Tyler approved sober as well as not-so sober. Side note... bitchin' mustaches only make the music better!

My Favorite Golden Girl

Betty White will host SNL on May 8th! That is the first good decision I have heard by SNL in a long time. This is so great on so many levels. For one it shows the power of Facebook fan pages. A fan page was created to promote Betty White to Host SNL recently and has nearly 500,000 fans. You have to believe there will be a Golden Girls skit in the works. She is a legend. I can't wait for this episode!

This Snickers commercial makes me snicker...

Ear Candy - The Soft Pack

I am loving this band so hard right now. I have had The Soft Pack record on repeat for the last few weeks. Try not to sing-a-long to their infectious riffs. I dare you!

Ear Candy - Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

This song has been stuck in my head and earphones for the last few days. I have always had a soft place in my heart for infectious whistles. I love that this song sounds like its from another time.

I Have a Beta Named VHS

I would like you to meet our Beta fish, VHS. He has been a part of the fam for about a year and a half. He is cool little dude. I cleaned out his habitat today and here he is catchin' some rays and enjoying life.

I Envy Jake Burton

Jake Burton lives the dream! I'm sure he works really hard and his life is not all play, but you have to envy a guy who has turned his passion and hobby into his life. All while building a $700 million company and getting in 100 days of riding per year. Sounds good to me!

Check out the video and full story at USA Today.

Superbowl Commercials

So as you all know Superbowl XLIV (44, I had to look up what the roman numerals were... you're welcome) is this Sunday. New Orleans Saints will be taking on the Indianapolis Colts. My Sunday will consist of rooting for the Saints, eating a lot of snacks, drinking a few beers and watching commercials. Don't get me wrong I love football and am very interested in the game, but when I need to step away from the TV it will be during the game as to not miss any commercials. Chalk it up to my fascination with pop culture, but I love to see what companies come up with to justify the $2.5 - $3 million for a 30 second spot.

Here are a few commercials that have made me chuckle in the last few years:

Gorillaz - "Stylo"

On the heels of yesterday's announcement of Gorillaz headlining Sunday night of Coachella, a new song was "leaked" (insert finger quotes here) onto the internet today. "Stylo" will be the first single off the Gorillaz 3rd album, Plastic Beach, due out in March. I am always amazed by the Gorillaz ability to collaborate with such diverse group of artists. Plastic Beach will have contributions from Mick Jones (Clash), Snoop Dogg, Lou Reed and Mos Def. Can't wait to hear the entire album. Give it a listen.

Coachella...ella...ella

Coachella lineup announcement was dropped this morning. I am psyched about all the amazing bands that will grace the Empire Polo Club fields in Indio. Once again, Coachella falls on my birthday. Its like a fantastic birthday cake that's baked especially for me, except there will be more short shorts, sweltering heat, tight pants, Toms, fanny packs, and ironic mustaches than I usually prefer on my cake. Going to be another eclectic mix of musical goodness this year. See you out there friends!

Rain Drops Keep Fallin' On My Head

So we are in the midst of Storm Watch 2010! By all reports this storm could bring more rain in a weeks time than the average annual rainfall for SD. So with rain on the brain, (see what I did there?) I decided to compile a list of my favorite songs about rain. I couldn't believe how many great songs came to mind. My list turned into a top 20. In no particular order....

“A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall” – Bob Dylan
“Africa” – Toto
“Have You Ever Seen The Rain” – CCR
“No Rain” – Blind Melon
“Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head” – B.J. Thomas
“Blame It On The Rain” – Milli Vanilli
“Purple Rain” – Prince
“Singin’ In The Rain” – Gene Kelly
“I Can’t Stand The Rain” – Missy Elliott
“Why Does It Always Rain On Me” – Travis
“It Wish It Would Rain Down” – Phil Collins

LOST: The Last Supper

LOST is quite possibly the best TV show, ever! There, I said it. I have never been so interested a show like this. Those of you who are into the show know exactly what I'm talking about. Those of you who are not, think that I am nuts. I can respect that.

I am so excited for this, the final season of LOST. They just put out these promo photos with the cast in a famous setting of The Last Supper. I have always loved all the religious innuendos on the show. The Last Supper photos are so fitting. Not surprising that John Locke is portrayed as the Christ figure.

Leonardo Da Vinci's original painting.

The Onion: Highlights from CES

The 2010 Consumer Electronics Show took place last week in Las Vegas. Here are some of the must-have gadgets rolled out by the big manufacturers:

  • Texas Instruments—TI-101 Graphing Bassoon: This powerful, user-friendly calculator-meets-sonorous-woodwind is perfect for the multitasking high school student

  • Ford Motor Company—The Ford Fiesta: This new tech- heavy update to the longtime model comes with the Sync system, which allows drivers to customize their dash display, synchronize their iPhone, update their social networking site, and have their corpse embalmed when they hit a tree while taking advantage of the car's functionality.

Dean Potter is My Hero

Dean Potter has been pushing the limits in the climbing world for years. His free solos and speed ascents in Yosemite and Patagonia are unparalleled. In recent years he has got more into BASE jumping. Check out this video of him throwing himself off Switzerlands Eiger armed with a wingsuit and parachute. It is the longest BASE jump ever, covering some 9,000 vertical feet and nearly four miles. Potter spent two minutes and 50 seconds in flight. Human flight... what a dream!

Want It...

My inner child is screaming, loudly for this toy. Not sure why... Maybe it's the rad promo video, or the 4 propellers, or the fact that you can change out the body frame, or that you can control with iPhone. Yep, it's all of those things. C'mon, I know you want one too!

The Force Is Strong With These Shoes...

Hot damn, Adidas + Star Wars have teamed up with one of the best collaborations I have seen. Inspired by the epic saga, each shoe represents different scenes and characters from Darth to Yoda. Check out the whole collection on Sneaker Freaker.

And apparel...

If only I would have had these Darth Vader kicks and this hoody at Comic-Con this year. It's the only thing that could have made this picture any better.

Snuggie Fever

The Snuggie was undoubtedly the gift of the holiday season. The Snuggie took the country by storm by convincing folks that a reversed robe is revolutionary.

Not to be outdone by the Snuggie, Japan has introduced their own version. Same concept, but even nuttier. This mobile mummy sleeping back looks great for someone that has no use of their arms. I'm not sure what this doo-hickey is called because I don't read Japanese (only speak it), but I'm guessing its called How-Do-I-Get-Outta-This-Thingie.

Hot Tub Time Machine = Actual Name of Movie

This movie is going to be awesome! It has all the necessary components for a hit... Chevy Chase, 80's ski movie, hot tub and time machines. I smell an Oscar.

Check Me Out... I'm an Avatar!

I just saw Avatar in IMAX 3D. Wowzers! Avatar is the most visually stunning film I have ever seen in my life. Seriously! This is the way I remember feeling after seeing Star Wars for the first time. For once, you can believe the hype that is surrounding this movie. If you haven't seen it... Do It!

I found this program where you can Avatarize yourself. I am a total nerd for this stuff. I try not to support McDonald's in anything they do, but this is pretty cool. Take this opportunity to turn yourself into a blue giant. Can you see the resemblance? I think I make a great Avatar. Now if I could only find a way to ride a dragon...

So This Is The New Year!

Happy New Year! 2010 is here to stay. At least for 365 days. I have a great feeling about this year. Can you feel it? I look forward to see what TwentyTen has in store for me. As I work on that, enjoy Death Cab For Cutie. Cheers!
